Cryogenic Wiring

Standard cryogenic wiring includes twisted pairs and attenuated RF coaxial cables. All experimental wiring is well-adapted to our cryostats with tailored installation sets. The wiring options have been carefully developed to introduce minimal added heat load at mixing chamber stage. Nearly all practical wiring configurations keep the base temperature below 10mK.

DC and Low Frequency

Twisted pairs

Twisted pair wiring comes in sets of 12 pairs (24 wires) with standard cryogenic materials: phosphor-bronze, copper and niobium-titanium. All wires are factory twisted and bundled into a fiberglass sleeving for protection. At every temperature stage the bundle is thermally anchored to gold plated copper bobbins. Additional break-outs can be added at every temperature stage. One KF-40 line-of-sight port can fit up to four sets of standard 12 pairs. Twisted pair wiring is also available with shielding. Custom wiring arrangements available upon request.

Lossy coaxial cables

Lossy coaxial cable sets of 6x CuNi-CuNi lines from room temperature to mixing chamber stage. The lines are anchored on every temperature stage onto gold plated copper bobbins. One KF40 LOS-port can fit up to four sets of 6x CuNi-CuNi lines.

Thermocoax cables

For high-frequency filtering, sets of 12x Thermocoax lines from room temperature to the mixing chamber stage. These lines are anchored on every temperature stage onto gold plated copper bobbins. One KF40 LOS-port can fit up to four (4) sets of 12 Thermocoax lines.

High Frequency

RF installation sets

Standard connector types: SMA (18GHz) and K / 2.92mm (40GHz). Set consists of thermalization flanges at every temperature stage. The flanges come with female-female bulkhead feedthroughs that effectively thermalize the outer conductor of the coaxial cable. Inner conductor is thermalized via cryo-attenuators ranging from 0dB to 20dB.

Semi-rigid coaxial cables

Standard connector types: SMA (18GHz) and K / 2.92mm (40GHz). Wide variety of semi-rigid coaxial cable options with connectors suitable for cryogenic temperatures. Most typical cables are listed, other materials and dimensions are available upon request.

Low-noise flexible coaxial cables

Flexible graphite coated coaxial cable with SMA (5GHz) connectors. Developed to minimize the presence of microphonic noise observed in semi-rigid coaxial cables at cryogenic temperatures (triboelectric effect). The cables are a broadband alternative to low-noise Thermocoaxial cables. Flexible cable assemblies have 50Ω characteristic impedance and a bandwidth up to 5GHz. The assemblies fit our RF-installation sets.
